James R New began his carrier in brass musical instrument manufacturing at F.E.Olds and Son in 1973 then moved on to study trumpet production under the direction of Domenick Calicchio in Hollywood California. After eighteen months Jim moved to the Benge trumpet factory in Anaheim, California where he worked for four years and where he met and worked with Zig Kanstul.
During this time Jim also studied with Claude Gordon for a period of three years.
As Benge was preparing to shut it’s doors Jim became a consultant for CG Conn Corp. in Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Mexico a duel border operation. Then in 1982 when Zig Kanstul decided to start his own company, Jim New was asked to become the first employee hired at Kanstul Musical instruments, and soon became the Plant Manager. Jim worked in all aspects of the company and introduced CNC technology to Kanstul and eventually went on to create it’s vast brass mouthpiece division. Jim personally made all the custom mouthpieces that musicians came to depend upon.
After forty years in the brass musical instrument manufacturing industry Jim New has opened his own brass mouthpiece shop dedicated to making music more enjoyable by making life easier for the musician, at an affordable cost. Jim is dedicated to this work, his family, and his customers.
Jim and his wife Pamela are located in Hurricane, Utah near Zion Canyon National Park and are enjoying their home in the picturesque Southern Utah surroundings
